Practice tips

  • Practise regularly – 15 minutes a day is much, much better than two hours once a week.
  • Warm up with scales and arpeggios each time you practise, make sure you don’t always play the easy ones though!
  • Work at the tricky bits that you can’t play, not the easy bits you can.
  • Practise small sections at a time, slowly at first.
  • When pieces are more or less note perfect, play them right through and keep going, even if you make mistakes.
  • Grab every opportunity to play to friends and family; this helps you to overcome performance nerves.
  • The more you practise, the quicker you’ll progress.
